Ramadan is (according to Wikipedia) the ninth month of the Islamic calendar; Muslims worldwide observe this as a month of fasting from dawn until sunset. Food and drink is served daily, before sunrise and after sunset.
With this, there are plenty bazaar starting in the afternoon to late evening, that sells food and drinks to break fast with. There are many different types of food, mostly Malay Cuisine. One thing I love is the Kuih (Malay cakes).
For years, I have been visiting such bazaars, hunting for the best Kuih in town. This year has not been fruitful because it started off with me being under the weather. When I am finally well and fit, it is already towards the end of Ramadan. So I have asked around, which is the best bazaar. One of the recommended ones is this in Lok Kawi.
Lok Kawi is a army base camp. It is said that because the people in the army are from all over Malaysia, thus the food sold in the bazaar are made by people from all over Malaysia, which would be slightly different than those made by the locals.
Off we go!
We managed to get some Kuih, they indeed tasted... YUMMY!
Pulut Panggang (grilled glutinous rice with spicy coconut flakes, wrapped in banana leaves)
Lepat Pisang & Lepat Ubi (steamed banana paste & steamed cassava paste wrapped in banana leaves)
I am definitely going to do this again before the end of Ramadan. Now where's the next best bazaar?
See you in my next post! Toodles!
