Kaldido's Cafe

[Non-Halal]

I got to know about this cafe in City Mall few years ago. It was then, serving Chinese herbal drinks and desserts. I've went once, taste wise it was ok but portion was small.

Not long ago, I heard that the business has changed hands and now they are serving Chinese dishes, some are just like home cooked food. I guess this is why their business has improved with most lunch time being full housed.

This was my... gosh, I lost count... N-th visit. I was there with Baniaw and ATY. Their service is fast, exactly what people on a tight lunch break need. Their menu is also quite wide with selections of meal for individuals, or dishes to share. From noodles to rice, chicken to pork to beef to lamb to all sorts of vegetable.

Sweet and Sour Pork

Si Chuan Eggplant

Fried Egg Cha Sao

Overall, it was tasty, fast and affordable. Perfect for a weekday short lunch break.

The Glass Grill and Bar

[Serve No Pork]

Our regular dinner rendezvous (BunnyBee, Kopinut, Hub and I) this week brought us to The Glass Grill and Bar, a new place on the 7th floor of Suria Sabah.

This is a new place, less than one month old, has caught my attention when it was still under renovation. It was easily spotted because it was just one floor below the cinema that Hub and I always go to.

The decoration of the restaurant was simple yet contemporary. There are 2 sections to this restaurant; the air-conditioned area, and the “outside” open air which has a wonderful view of the town.

We took our seats and eagerly looked into the menu. Service was a bit slow as in we had to repeatedly ask for our menu, table settings and napkins. I guess the wait staff was still new.

There is a huge selection in their menu; salads, soups, starters, burgers, sandwiches, steaks, chops, grilled seafood, pasta, pizza, Indian cuisine, Asian cuisine, rice dishes, desserts, and a few quite interesting fusion dishes such as Lamb Shank Gulai. As well as a long beverage menu of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Lime Juice

Tomato Sorba

Seafood Chowder

Nicoise Salad

Caesar Salad

Lamb Shank Gulai

Tandoori Chicken

Ox Tail Assam

Honey Glazed Chicken Wings - The BBQ sauce was yummy!

Food was nice, atmosphere was soothing with dim lights and quiet environment. This is a place that I will visit again soon. Hope they improve their wait staff quality.

Sunset Bar

[Non-Halal]

This is why I love KK...

Kopinut, Hub and I went to Sunset Bar last weekend. The excitement was built up throughout the day when Hub kept observing the weather. It was a hot and sunny day without a single cloud. "Today's sunset would be superb" he said. He was right, the sunset was perfect.

My Mojito, delish!

Aaahhhh! Perfect ending to the weekend.

Ice-Cream Cake

There is a few tubs of ice-cream in the fridge, weirdly enough, no one is touching it. Baniaw also had a few tubs in her fridge.

Thus, I combined all the ice-cream (luckily they were all of chocolate and vanilla flavour) and added some whipped cream to lighten it. Then I baked a few sheet cakes, lay them out, spread the ice-cream over it, freeze it again. And...
Tadaa! Yum Yum :)

My New Offset Spatula

I know it may look silly to many bakers out there, but I was so ecstatic when I found this little tool in the baking supplies shop; my new 4-inch offset spatula!

You see, it’s not that it’s not at all available before this… I already have one but it is 15 inches long. I have longed for a shorter version but all I can find locally was sold in a set; along with other tools that I already have. I needed only the short offset spatula.

Needless to say, when I saw this a few days ago, I bought it in a jiffy! Yay! Welcome to the family.

Tiramisu Cake

[Non-Halal]

We celebrated Daddy’s birthday. And this year, I have made a tiramisu cake.

It was packed with flavor; every aspect of the cake was perfect, but only 1 miss. The mascarpone cheese mix was still too soft. Note to self: add more gelatin next time!!! And I need more practice on the free-hand writing on the cake.

Jogoya @ Starhill Gallery, Kuala Lumpur

[Non-Halal]

Recently, I went to KL for a company’s meeting, a common activity in my line of work. The only difference this time was, my colleagues and I have secretly planned for a farewell event for our immediate superior, our Project Manager we fondly called “Boss”. Boss is not leaving the company, he had just been transferred to another team. However, our team has grown over the past couple of years, through thick and thin, and ups and downs, that we feel more like a family rather than colleagues and superior. Thus, seeing Boss leaving us, is just so sad…

So, being in the “farewell” mood, we felt like having a good dinner together, a little splurge we wouldn’t mind. We wanted something that we had not had together before, a place that we can eat whatever we wanted, as much as we wanted, and dine as long as we wanted… JAPANESE BUFFET!

We decided to go to Jogoya (http://www.jogoyarestaurants.com). The buffet spread was just glorious!
The Shrimp was fresh, sweet, crunchy, and creamy at the same time. YUM!

 Fresh and pickled oysters.

Fresh sashimi.

Nice sushi.

Our team (minus Michael, too bad).

Fresh seafood, ready to be cooked according to your preference.
Fresh and wide array of sashimi.
Variety of sushi.
Chinese dimsum, including some premiums such as abalone dumpling.
Fresh seafood and meat, ready for the teppan.
My favourite station!

They have good stuff too.
When it comes to desserts, females have a second stomach.
Chocolate fountain with marshmallow.
Frankly speaking, I make better tiramisu.
Unfortunately, their cakes were so-so only.

Well, I certainly had a lot of good food here, will definitely be back one day.

See you again in my next post! Toodles!

Popular Cuisine

[Non-Halal]

I went to this shop, Popular Cuisine in Towering Industrial Centre, few times over the course of several years, but the last time was 2 years ago. I have stopped visiting this shop because their food standards dropped.

However, recently Hub’s friend commented that their food improved. So we decided to give it another try. And I was pleasantly surprised.

They are famous for their homemade noodles, cooked and tossed in their secret sauce (Kon Lau Mien). I have to say, their noodles were cooked al dente, tossed in a sweet and salty dark sauce, topped with a choice of BBQ Pork (Char Sau), Crispy Roasted Pork (Sau Nyuk), Egg and Pork Roll (Chun Gien) and Roasted Chicken (Sau Kai). My favourite being their BBQ Pork. It was tender, juicy and sweet with a hint of smokiness. However, the Crispy Roasted Pork was too hard and over cooked, a disappointment.

Overall, I was pleased and would visit this shop again soon. Hopefully they can maintain their food standards.
